Tropical Storm Arthur, the first named storm of the 2020 Atlantic hurricane season, is approaching eastern North Carolina. A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for parts of the North Carolina coast. Tropical-storm-force winds and heavy rains are expected today.
“Dangerous coastal surfs and rip currents are expected to move northward along the southeast U.S. coast to the mid-Atlantic states during the next couple of days,” stated the National Hurricane Center. Minor beach erosion is also possible.
After skirting the Outer Banks, Arthur is expected to head out to sea and reduce in strength.
