Tropical Storm Cristobal continues to push northward and is expected to make landfall along the Louisiana coastline around 1pm CDT today. Cristobal will bring tropical storm force winds to the southeast Louisiana, Alabama, and Florida Panhandle coastlines today. Tropical storm force winds and isolated tornadoes will threaten the region but the primary threat will be heavy rainfall, flash flooding, and dangerous storm surge.
Data from an Air Force Reserve reconnaissance aircraft and NOAA Doppler weather radars indicate that maximum sustained winds remain near 50 mph with higher gusts. Little change in strength is forecast before landfall. Gradual weakening will begin once Cristobal moves inland later this afternoon.
Cristobal is expected to bring heavy rainfall along the Mississippi River Valley through Wednesday of this week.
