Cristobal strengthening, moving to Gulf by weekend

Tropical Storm Cristobal formed Monday and is currently stalled in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico. The system is currently producing deadly flooding and mudslides in Central America and could pose a threat to the U.S. Gulf Coast early next week, though it is too soon to specify timing and location. 

The storm formed Monday afternoon in the Bay of Campeche and upgraded from a Tropical Depression into a Tropical Storm early Tuesday afternoon. 

The system will likely remain stalled in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico until the weekend and then move northward. National Hurricane Center forecasters say the system could move near the northern or western U.S. Gulf Coast by Sunday or Monday, but it is still too soon to tell when and where this system would come ashore.
