Stalled low expected to cause flooding along the Appalachians

The stalled low pressure system that caused massive downpours in Michigan is now expected to flood southwest Virginia and parts of the Carolinas on Wednesday.

The National Weather Service stated, “Wednesday morning forecasts project the Roanoke River to rise more than 4 feet above flood stage at the Walnut Avenue bridge to a crest of 14.4 feet, which would be the 11th highest crest on record since 1901.”

The system is trapped west of the Appalachians, but is forecast to diminish by the end of the week, with gaps between showers and rain bands becoming wider.
