Louisiana has begun mandatory evacuations for the lower parishes, ahead of Tropical Sally’s landfall.
Landfall is forecast for early Tuesday morning. The National Hurricane Center expects Sally to strengthen to a low-grade hurricane before landfall. Tropical-storm-force winds could reach the Gulf Coast by early Monday afternoon.
Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards declared a state of emergency. “We have every reason to believe that this storm represents a very significant threat to the people of Southeast Louisiana,” Edwards said.
