The Evans Canyon Fire near Yakima, WA, has burned over 53,000 acres and is 0% contained. Areas of Kittitas County are now under evacuation orders as the blaze has forced closures to portions of State Route 821.
The fire was first reported on August 31st. High winds and dry conditions have allowed the blaze to grow rapidly. Temperatures are forecast to remain above normal through the end of the week, with winds reaching 25 MPH. Dry and windy conditions will make it difficult to contain the fire’s spread, as the blaze has already burned 6 homes.
